It’s common knowledge that a lot of Black people avoid eating pork. Whether this is for religious and/or health reasons depends on the person. I am not one of these people, if only for bacon. I’m the type of guy to go to SweetGreen and order a chicken caesar salad and add bacon. There’s something about the disgust on the face of the vegan b*tch in front of me that just makes it taste better later…and I don’t even know if that’s real pork, but they sell me the dream by not specifying at least. I’ll even mess with some Bac-O’s when the occasion calls for it.

I know the alternatives. Turkey bacon is great, but it’s like play-bacon and doesn’t fill the same craving. It’s almost like lunchmeat turkey with reddish coloring…and there’s no grease. Let me tell you something about bacon grease for those of you who don’t know the ledge. Bacon grease, when used the same way white people use extra virgin olive oil, can make fish, burgers, or fried chicken that much more delicious, particularly when it’s been sitting for a while.
It doesn’t really stop at bacon, though, when it comes to my “po’k”. Honey-baked ham, carnitas, chorizo, adobo, pork chops, pork tenderloin, short ribs…all of it can get the business. I goes in.
Some people might say that I’m risking my health by continuing to consume pork, but people (not just Negroes) have been eating pork for generations and living full bodied lives. Life’s too short to be trying to pass off mesclun salad as a full meal. Personally, I’d rather die with a pound of bacon in my stomach than a mark-a** plate of baby field greens.
